Monday, Sept. 22, 2025, 5 a.m. ET System type: Hurricane, Category 1 System name: Gabrielle At 5 a.m. Monday, the National Hurricane Center issued an advisory stating that Gabrielle became a Category 1 hurricane with sustained winds of 75 mph after intensifying from a tropical storm.
Gabrielle strengthened on Sunday afternoon and became the second hurricane of 2025 in the Atlantic, according to the National Hurricane Center. Gabrielle could get stronger, and forecasters said it could peak as a Category 3 storm early this week.
