NWS: 12 tornadoes hit central Illinois on Wednesday, number could increase
DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - The National Weather Service in Lincoln has confirmed ten tornadoes hit central Illinois during severe weather on Wednesday. Most of the tornadoes caused little to no damage, but Jacksonville took a hit that damaged a youth sports complex. Most areas saw downed trees and snapped power poles.
Thousands of people in Illinois were urged to take cover immediately amid a damaging tornado on Wednesday afternoon.
