The Liberty departed Indiana with two more players suffering injuries. First, Nyara Sabally was a pregame scratch due to a right knee injury. Then Leonie Fiebich sat out the final nine minutes off the first half after injuring her left shin following a collision with Indiana’s Lexie Hull.
The New York Liberty put forth a dominant effort against the Chicago Sky in the first road game of their championship defense.
Caitlin Clark threw up her arms, yelled at WNBA referees and punched the air in frustration after a controversial no-call cost her team a chance to knock off the defending champions Saturday. In the final seconds of the Indiana Fever's 90-88 loss to the reigning champion New York Liberty, Clark took the ball with a chance to tie or win the game.
Fever guard Caitlin Clark put up 18 points and 10 assists, while forward Aaliyah Boston had 27 points and 13 rebounds, which was not enough to overcome the defending WNBA champions. Liberty guard Sabrina Ionescu scored 23 points, and center Jonquel Jones scored 26 points and grabbed 12 rebounds.
But that moment was an example of who Cloud is and why it was so easy for the Liberty to embrace her.
Natasha Cloud is already feeling at home with the New York Liberty after her first two games of the season. Cloud led the Liberty in scoring on Thursday in their 99-74 win over the Chicago Sky.
