Adams is facing fierce resistance from the City Council as members seek to stop him from expanding the role of federal immigration agents in the city.

Mayor Adams, after taking a jab at Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani’s decision to take a trip to Uganda after “winning half an election” in a video released Thursday, said Friday he was joking and conceded politicians need a getaway every once in a while.

The U.S. Department of Justice is suing New York City and Mayor Eric Adams over its sanctuary city policies, according to Attorney General Pam Bondi. In a post on social media Thursday afternoon, Bondi said Adams and the city are “continuing to obstruct law enforcement” with the sanctuary city laws in place.
