The wide-ranging bill is the vehicle for much of Trump’s domestic policy agenda, containing key changes that will affect daily life for millions of Texans.

The procedural "rule" vote was 219-213, with one Republican, Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick of Pennsylvania, joining all Democrats in opposition. At one point, five Republicans had voted "no" on the rule, while eight others did not vote, but Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., managed to sway them overnight.

The 2017 bill brought about sweeping, albeit temporary, changes to the tax code. Provisions which nearly doubled the standard deduction, upped the monetary thresholds for tax brackets, lowered the top tax rate and bumped up the child tax credit were set to expire at the end of 2025.
