Atlantic Hurricane Gabrielle swirls southeast of Bermuda as Tropical Storm Narda forms off Mexico
MIAMI — Hurricane Gabrielle formed Sunday in the open Atlantic southeast of Bermuda, while Tropical Storm Narda emerged well off southern Mexico’s Pacific coast.
The National Hurricane Center's 11 p.m. Friday advisory reported that Tropical Storm Gabrielle is in the Atlantic Ocean, 535 miles northeast of the Northern Leeward Islands and 760 miles southeast of Bermuda. It is moving to the northwest at 12 mph, with maximum sustained winds of 50 mph. Gabrielle is expected to become a hurricane on Sunday.
Tropical Storm Gabrielle strengthened into a hurricane Sunday afternoon southeast of Bermuda in the Atlantic Ocean, forecasters said. The Miami-based National Hurricane Center said at 11 p.m. Sunday that Gabrielle’s maximum sustained winds increased to 75 mph and gusts were at 90 mph.
Gabrielle strengthened to a hurricane Sunday evening and is expected to pass east of Bermuda Monday, more than 1,000 miles from Florida.
