Sheriff’s officials were warning the public Saturday to be on the lookout for a possibly live grenade — one of two that were found at a Santa Monica apartment building storage unit last week, after the other one detonated the following day in East Los Angeles, killing three sheriff’s detectives.
Three deputies were killed Friday in an explosion at the L.A. County Sheriff's Department's Biscailuz Center Training Academy in East L.A., the deadliest incident for the agency in more than 160 years.
Arson and Explosives detectives believed two grenades found at the complex were inert, but took them to be destroyed and rendered safe.
Officials were looking into whether the explosion, which killed three sheriff’s deputies, was caused by devices seized from a condo in Santa Monica a day before the blast.
