More than 100,000 Coloradans could lose their health insurance if Congress passes newly proposed cuts to Medicaid, according to preliminary estimates.

WASHINGTON – House Republicans defended a bill that would enact sweeping tax cuts, raise the debt ceiling, and add restrictions to benefit programs during a heated marathon day of committee hearings on Capitol Hill.

House GOP plows ahead to advance key components of its bill to fund Trump’s agenda -- including taxes and Medicaid cuts -- even as they remain at odds within.

In East Hollywood, representatives of more than 40 community health centers rallied in support of Medicaid and demanded the preservation of Medi-Cal.

House Republicans plan to enact work requirements and more frequent eligibility checks for Medicaid. But the proposal does not pursue some of the deeper cuts that lawmakers had considered.

House Republicans are eyeing a vote on the final package before Memorial Day, even as they have yet to reach consensus on several key issues.

But backers like Rep. Gabe Evans say the proposal’s goal is to ensure only those who qualify for the program are using it.
