Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro was captured in an overnight attack, some Democrats and a Republican are pushing to block future U.S. strikes.

In a rare rebuke to the Trump administration, the Senate on Thursday advanced a war powers resolution that would block the president's use of the U.S. armed forces to engage in hostilities within or against Venezuela unless authorized by Congress.

In a rebuke to the president, the Senate narrowly agreed to bring up a War Powers Act resolution for a vote next week. The measure would require Mr. Trump to seek congressional authorization for military operations in Venezuela.
