There have been three homicides in Minneapolis since Friday morning, according to police. The first homicide happened early Friday near Franklin Avenue and Lyndale Avenue. Police arrived to the area around 2:30 a.m. and found a man with life-threatening gunshot wounds. He was taken to a nearby hospital but later died from his injuries.

Police are investigating a second fatal shooting in south Minneapolis on Saturday, which MPD Chief Brian O'Hara said was a "brazen" daylight killing. The latest shooting happened at Lake Street and Grand Avenue South just after 1 p.m., with police arriving to find a man in his 40s gravely wounded.

Minneapolis police say that around 4:20 p.m., the suspected shooter — a man in his 20s — was arrested on the 4700 block of Cedar Avenue South.

Less than a month after Zohran Mamdani’s victory in New York City’s mayoral primary, some of Mamdani’s allies are coalescing around another democratic socialist challenging the incumbent Democratic mayor of Minneapolis.
