People told to leave three areas as fears grow of wider conflict between government and Kurdish authorities
Deadly fighting between Kurdish forces and Syria's national army in Aleppo has led to new widespread displacement. Tensions between Syria's government and Kurdish forces have boiled over into deadly clashes in the country's northern city of Aleppo.
Türkiye considers the U.S.-backed SDF, which controls large parts of northeastern Syria, a terrorist organization. Ankara says the SDF is dominated by the Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG), an extension of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), which has waged an armed campaign against the Turkish state since 1984.
Syrian government officials have held talks with the commander of the main Kurdish-led force over plans to merge it with the national army.
