The metro area, as well as counties to the north and northeast, will face the greatest likelihood of severe weather threats developing.
We will be watching strong storms developing across North Texas through the late afternoon hours. These late afternoon and early afternoon storms will have the best chance for producing severe weather, and that is why parts of North Texas have been placed under a Level 3 ENHANCED Risk for severe weather.
Severe thunderstorms and tornado watches are in place on Tuesday, with 40 million Americans on alert for strong winds, large hail and flash flooding.
"Severe thunderstorms capable of all severe hazards remain possible this evening across portions of the central and southern Plains," a forecast from the National Weather Service's Storm Prediction Center (SPC) said. "Several strong to intense tornadoes are possible," it added.
By Tuesday, more than four million will be under the highest risk of severe storms and tornadoes across central and eastern Oklahoma and into the Ozarks. Officials are warning of "significant multi-hazard severe weather including tornadoes - some potentially strong to intense - very large hail and severe winds".
At least 27 people were reported dead across several states in an expansive outbreak of severe weather from the Heartland to the East Coast.
