Founded in 1906, the University of West Georgia (UWG) is a public university based on a 645 acre campus in the town of Carrollton, based just fourteen miles from the state border with Alabama.

The system, which pushed in from Alabama, reached West Georgia around 4 p.m. Saturday. The brunt of the storm moved over the city around 7 p.m.

Severe Thunderstorm Warnings were first alerted in several west Georgia counties, including Troup and Coweta, and then later moved east impacting Rockdale and Newton counties, among others.
