JOHANNESBURG (AP) — South Africa’s top law enforcement official said Friday that U.S. President Donald Trump wrongly claimed that a video he showed in the Oval Office was of burial sites for more than 1,000 white farmers and he “twisted” the facts to push a false narrative about mass killings of white people in his country.

President Trump has singled out White Afrikaner farmers for U.S. refugee status, claiming they're persecuted in South Africa. But most people there say it's simply not true.

A visit by President Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa to the White House took a contentious turn on Wednesday as President Trump showed him videos intended to back up Mr. Trump’s false claim that there have been mass killings of Afrikaners, a white ethnic minority that once led the nation’s apartheid government.
