A child who was hospitalized with measles in Texas has died, state health officials said this week. It marks the first death in the state's latest outbreak — the largest such outbreak in close to 30 years — which has left more than 140 people infected.

In Texas, there were 146 cases of measles across the state and the South Plains, with 20 patients hospitalized. The best way to prevent getting sick is to get two doses of a measles vaccine.

Bexar County has yet to report any measles cases but the number of infections around Texas is rising. As of Friday, the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) reported 146 confirmed cases.
