Common long-eared bat

The brown long-eared bat is also known as a whispering bat because it echolocates very quietly as it hunts down small moths, beetles, flies, earwigs and spiders. The film is edited to show the bats emerging in quick sequence, but the actual emergence took 44 minutes with gaps of up to seven minutes between individual bats. The reason you can't hear the bats is that they didn't echolocate as they left; I had an Anabat Walkabout within 2 m of the entrance and it didn't record a single call...
