Carmen the military macaw is always a little silly. One of her favorite behaviors is to stick her tongue out to get someone's attention, and she sometimes make the sounds that a person might make when sticking out their tongue. Carmen will also do it on cue if a trainer sticks their tongue out at her first. Macaws are very smart birds who will learn to mimic sounds, pick up on social cues, and even complete complex behaviors when trained. Carmen is fairly diverse in her cued behaviors. She knows
