One of the first sounds you'll hear when you visit our Wetland Centre is the distinctive call of our Eider Ducks. Instead of the typical "quack" of a mallard, the Eider's have a unique "aah-woo" sound 🔊🎶 This large sea-duck is the UK's heaviest duck and is a firm favourite at the centre - their regular displays and singing always brings a smile to our face! Did you know that Eiders feed on Blue Mussels and other molluscs, together with crustaceans and echinoderms? They dive down to 3 metres or so to find food! Eiders will soon be sitting on eggs around the coasts of northern Britain & Ireland, but you may still see some immature birds around southern coasts because they don't typically breed until their third year.
