The JonBenét Ramsey case began on December 26, 1996, when 6-year-old JonBenét Ramsey was reported missing from her family’s home in Boulder, Colorado. Her mother, Patsy Ramsey, called 911 after finding a two-and-a-half-page ransom note demanding $118,000 for JonBenét’s safe return. The note was unusually long, appeared to be written inside the house using Patsy’s notepad and pen, and included references similar to lines from popular movies.
